As I’m sitting here tonight, exhausted from a long week, I have to take a few minutes to praise God for all He has been doing. You see, this adoption process has been anything but easy. Quite honestly, it has been a very emotional journey for us. At times we are elated and can’t wait even one more second to meet our sweet babe, and at others times, we feel defeated and discouraged. Different people have reacted differently to our decision to adopt. Some have said “Wow! How nice of you to do this!” or “you guys are such good people” and while I appreciate the thought behind their words, I don’t feel “nice” or “good”. I feel that I am doing what God has called us to do. If anything, I feel blessed. Sadly, some have not agreed with our decision at all. Then, there are some who understand our hearts and get the bigger picture that God has laid out for our family. These people have partnered with us to see that one less child has to go without a family. They just get it. I am beyond grateful to have these people as friends and I thank God for bringing them into our lives 😊 We are doing everything we can to overcome these adoption costs and God has been breaking through every obstacle that has been set in front of us. Just as I start to feel discouraged, God does something absolutely AMAZING and settles our wild hearts once more. I mean, we made $660 at our garage sale today and still have a TON of stuff left over to do another one 🙌🏻 When God calls you to do something, YOU DO IT. No matter what anyone says. He is bigger and He WILL make a way 😊
Lunch today was a spinach salad with chopped chicken, celery, cucumber, and homemade cucumber avocado dressing! It was seriously YUM!! Since I love you all dearly, I’ve decided to share the recipe with you 😘😘
-From Hammer & Chisel Recipe Book-
1/4 medium cucumber, cut into chunks
1/2 medium avocado, cut into chunks
3 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt
1 tsp raw honey
2 cloves of garlic
1/4 tsp sea salt (I use pink Himalayan salt)
1 Tbsp fresh chopped dill (I used parsley because I had it)
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
1. Place cucumber, avocado, lemon juice, yogurt, honey, garlic, salt, and dill in blender; cover. Blend till smooth.
2. Slowly add oil; blending until smooth.
3. Store in the refrigerator, tightly covered, until ready for use. I find this lasts for about a week if it is in a tightly sealed container (unless we eat it first lol).

PS: All of the proceeds from my BeachBody business right now are going directly towards our adoption 😍 Get in shape and give a baby a forever home. Sounds like a win to me!
We are so thrilled to see how God has already provided with this adoption. Thank you so much to everyone to has donated so far! We were able to pay for our home study in full and even have the extra to get our fingerprinting and background checks done.
Once this is all finalized, we will be able to start the matching process and apply for grants (woohoo!). I plan on applying for every grant possible (even the ones that we don’t think we will get). We still have a long road ahead financially, but we feel a huge peace that God will provide! He has already been SO faithful!
Please don’t forget to subscribe to my blog so that you don’t miss out on any updates. I will be documenting our whole process with the hopes that this will encourage others to pursue adoption in the future. If you are interested in partnering with us on this journey, please message me on Facebook or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
Thanks for your prayers and support while we work to bring our sweet baby home 🙂
We are beyond thrilled to announce that we are growing our tribe!!! Through adoption!!! Steve and I have felt called to adoption since we’ve been together and we both strongly feel that the time has come to grow our tribe through adoption. God specifically calls EVERYONE to do their part when it comes to caring for widows and orphans. James 1:27 says, “Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress”.
We are standing here before you committing to love, care and provide for a child that will be a part of our family forever. Steve and I are asking that you come alongside us through prayer and financial support to bring this child home.We have started the process by meeting with our adoption attorney. I’m sure most of you have a few questions. I will go ahead and try to answer a few of them 😉
#1: “Will you be adopting a boy or a girl?” This depends who you are asking lol! If you ask Maddyx, he will say BOY. If you ask Merritt, she always says GIRL. We are open to either gender and have decided to not have a preference 🙂
#2: “Where are you adopting from?” We feel called to domestic adoption this time around. The adoption attorney we are working with specifically works with another adoption attorney in Arizona. Therefore, our baby will be from Arizona 🙂
#3: “How soon will you be adopting?” As soon as we can raise the money and get matched with a birth mother. It could be a month or it could be a year. Obviously, we are hoping it won’t take a year lol 😉
As you can imagine, we are filled with all kinds of emotions and we are crazy excited to bring home our sweet baby. We are so grateful for your support and prayers during this exciting time. Please feel free to follow our journey by subscribing to our blog and following us on all of our social media sites! You can donate by clicking the link below.
I don’t know about you, but I often feel the need to achieve perfection in my life. Like many women I know, I find myself looking at my favorite blogs and Instagram feeds and I compare. Comparing sets you up for discontentment. Discontentment sets you up for resentment. It is PAINFUL and totally not worth it. Do not do it!
Ha! Easier said than done, right? Personally, I often feel the need to achieve perfection as a wife, mom, friend, soccer coach, and as a person in general. I have a problem, folks. I’m either a perfectionist or a horrible resentful quitter (mostly the latter). I rarely fall in the middle. The problem with chasing perfection is that you never actually attain it. You may come close, but it will never be enough and it certainly won’t last. Why do I do this to myself?! Why do I set myself up for failure time and time again? Do you want to know why? It’s because I am human and I can’t do this on my own.
I am constantly striving for the wrong kind of perfection. My idea of perfection is selfish. SO selfish! It is all about what I think and even worse, sometimes it’s about what other people think. You know what? My idea of “perfection” is distorted and shaped by society. “Perfection”, in my eyes, looks like:
A perfect mom who “does it all” and still looks “hot”
Putting homegrown, everything-free, nutritious meals on the table for breakfast lunch and dinner
Having a beautifully decorated, spotless, chemical free and organized home 24/7
Being successful at EVERYTHING I put my hand to
And list could literally go on FOREVER!!!
I’m not saying that some of these things aren’t important, but these ideas of “perfection” should not be my ultimate goal and they should definitely not define my life! There was only one person who achieved perfection and His name was Jesus.
Instead of worrying about trying to look like a “hot mom”, I need to ask myself, “Does He want me to take care of my body?”. Instead of trying to live in the kitchen preparing the most perfect and healthy meals 24/7, I need to ask myself “does He want me to love and care for my husband and children?”. Most importantly, I need to first ask myself, “does He want me to seek Him every day above all else?” Yes. The end. Period. Everything else will fall into place when I seek God’s plan for my life EVERY day. He will bless me. He will continue to perfect me. I just need to let go….. And make a Pinterest board with ideas on how to do it…. Jk!
I read this verse today and it has become one of my favorites! I will cling to this verse this year (yes, I realize that I am like 3 months late on the whole “verse for the year” thing). Here it is…
Let the peace of Christ keep you in tune with each other, in step with each other. None of this going off and doing your own thing. And cultivate thankfulness. Let the Word of Christ have the run of the house. Give it plenty of room in your lives. Instruct and direct one another using good common sense. And sing, sing your hearts out to God! Let every detail in your lives—words, actions, whatever—be done in the name of the Master, Jesus, thanking God the Father every step of the way. (Colossians 3:15-17 MSG)
So, I hope this verse blesses your heart the way it blessed mine today. Don’t try and do everything on your own. Let God be in charge of the details! Have an attitude of gratitude. He is the only one who can perfect us.
Oh, gummy bears…. Sigh…. I love how delicious you taste, but I seriously dislike your sugar content, fake coloring, and lack of nutrition. I don’t know about you, but when I give my kids (or myself for that matter) a treat, I always prefer it to be healthy!
Here are my criteria for healthy treats:
They need to be-
•Whole food based
•Refined sugar free
•Free of artificial coloring
Wouldn’t it be awesome to feel good about giving your kids gummy treats?Well, I have good news! I have just the recipe for you. DIY healthy gummies. This is my kids’ favorite way to eat more healthy gelatin (I do put it in their smoothies too). These gummies are made with fruit and grass fed gelatin. They are gluten free, refined sugar free, and dairy free!
Here are some of the benefits of healthy grass fed gelatin.
1. Gelatin is contains a good amount of protein. With 6 grams of protein per tablespoon, it’s a great way to add a little more protein to your child’s diet.
2. Gelatin improves digestion. It naturally binds to water and helps food move through the digestive tract more easily.
3. Gelatin is good for bone and joint health. Gelatin contains lots of amino acids important in helping to prevent the cartilage in your joints from weakening. Gelatin also has very high anti-inflammatory properties.
4. Gelatin supports healthy hair, nails, and teeth. Gelatin contains a good amount of keratin, which is a very strong protein found in your hair, nails, teeth and skin.
